Dejan Kulusevski was the star on the day but every member of the Spurs team was worth their money in gold after a perfect performance on the opening day that will lift confidence for the campaign.

Eric Dier, who had not scored in the last three years, gave Antonio Conte’s men the lead before Emerson Royal forced Mohammed Salisu to put through his own net.

Kulusevski then wrapped up what he started with a goal of his own to give Spurs all three points and send out a strong message to rivals.

He told the press: “Why not winning the Champions League and the Premier League?.

Last season Tottenham kept five clean sheets from their last six games and powered on to finish fourth in the league table, securing that prestigious Champions League spot despite trailing Arsenal for large parts it.
