QPR are in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer.

QPR could look to the Premier League for a goalkeeping acquisition this summer with a new report suggesting that the club could make a swoop for an AFC Bournemouth shot-stopper ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

The R's are known to be in the market for a new goalkeeper with first-choice Asmir Begovic having only signed a one-year deal last summer. The Bosnian has been linked with clubs including Celtic and Newcastle United in recent weeks, although the door isn't necessarily closed on a contract extension at Loftus Road.

Should Marti Cifuentes want a younger option between the sticks than the former Chelsea and Everton 36-year-old, he could turn to Cherries man Mark Travers. The 25-year-old is second choice at the Vitality Stadium and spent the first half of last season on loan at Stoke City.

The player is still contracted at Bournemouth until 2027, so any QPR interest would require a fee to be paid. Transfer specialist Darren Witcoop reports the QPR interest in the player following Begovic's departure.

Speaking about his lack of playing time in April, Travers admitted he was ‘frustrated’ at the situation as he looked to his future. The player appeared to be open to a switch in pursuit of more starts as he said: “Of course I just want to play football. We’ll see what happens. But at the moment it’s really exciting for the next few games.

“I never sort of view it as being a number two. I just try to come in every day and push myself and give the best I can.

“Of course days are difficult where you are frustrated, but just try and do my best. Of course I want to play week in, week out. I’d be lying if I said I was happy that I wasn’t. But opportunities like this come along, so I just try to really enjoy it, because I know it’s really difficult sitting on the bench. When you have that chance to enjoy the buzz and atmosphere of a gameday, it’s class.

“I think that’s the hardest part about football, not playing. What you do when you’re not playing is tough. But thankfully I have a really strong family and partner behind me, who keeps me going and always push me. I’m always grateful for that and try not to overthink it too much. Then I always try to see the bigger picture.

“That moment always comes in football and you have to be ready to take it. I just tried to stay focused and do the best I could. I’m here fighting for my spot at Bournemouth. I came through the academy, so have been here a good while.”

Cifuentes did entrust young goalkeeper Joe Walsh in goal on the final day of the season against Coventry City, the 22-year-old's first league start for the club. However, it seems ambitious to think that the Catalan coach would rely solely on Walsh as first choice next term.

QPR have also been linked with a move for wantaway Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. The Nigeria international impressed at the Africa Cup of Nations this year and is poised to move away from South Africa with a number of clubs interested - although QPR links were stronger in January than they appear this summer.

Speaking about his future at QPR recently, Begovic told talkSPORT: “I am currently looking at options, talking to obviously QPR, and seeing what happens there. It’s still pretty early in the transfer window. Nothing has been decided yet. I really enjoyed last year, the fact that I played so many games.”
