QPR Dev Squad player ratings - 'Impressive' and 'nitty-gritty' 8/10s in close fought Bristol City defeat

QPR Development Squad fell to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City on Tuesday afternoon at Loftus Road as Paul Furlong fielded a youthful side in west London.
It was an unlucky Jack McDowell own goal that came as the result of a clever Kai Churchley run separated the two sides as the London outfit fielded a team largely composed of under-18 stars.

Hide AdThere was plenty to like about the QPR performance with some quality performances from midfield duo Alexander Aoraha and Teddy Tarbotton, as well as plenty of pace on the flanks. Here’s how the QPR players rated.
GK - Matteo Salamon, 8
A little rushed with his distribution at times but clearly another talented goalkeeper in the QPR ranks. Made an excellent save against the dangerous Churchley in the second half, as well as an impressive triple stop following a corner.
RB - Rocco Friel, 6
Had his work cut out this afternoon against a pacey Bristol City outfit and was beaten for the goal. Enjoyed a licence to roam with influence all over the pitch.
CB - Kemoko Keita-Turay, 6
Pretty sound defensively, Bristol City weren’t able to enjoy many clear cut chances. Was perhaps a little slow when reacting to a dangerous Churchley chance in the second half but was saved any embarrassment by Salamon.

Brings a maturity to the youth side despite being just 18 years old himself. Assured defensively but a golden opportunity to net with his head in the first half will haunt him, having worked space well to meet a Petrie cross. Unlucky with the own goal, little he could have done to prevent that happening.
LB - Jaiden Putman, 7
An eye-catching performance. Putman is a natural right back but filled in on the opposite flank. Did look out of position at times but made up for that with his energy and a drive to cut inside, which caused the Robins problems.
CDM - Alexander Aoraha, 8
A level above today. Good when carrying the ball forward and some nice link-up play with Tarbotton. Fashioned himself some decent half chances on the edge of the box but nothing gilt-edged.

CDM - Fraser Neill, 6
Neat with his defensive interventions this afternoon with a first half block a highlight.

Clearly has everything in his game. Clever when running the channels and a physicality to do the nitty gritty too.
LW - Phillip Sanyaolu, 8
Lots to like as he made the step up the age groups. The 16-year-old has been with the club since an under-9 and has a background in rugby, which is clear to see with his bulking frame and dynamic runs. Full of confidence to beat the Bristol City defence but not able to carve a decisive moment before his second half sub.
RW - Kieran Petrie, 7
There’s still a youthfulness about the nimble winger but bags of potential. Poised with the ball at his feet and a very willing runner. His plum cross onto McDowell’s head in the first half was begging to be converted.
ST - Ridwan Hassan, 6
In and out of the game this afternoon. At his best when employing his physicality out of possession but perhaps needs time to grow into the less exciting work of a lone striker.

Brought a lot from the bench. A different option to Sanyaolu with a more jinkiing threat than a physical one.
Helped sure up defence as QPR tried to find a leveller without fruition.
