A look at some of the players Millwall and QPR may get a chance of signing for free this summer.

Millwall and QPR sit side-by-side in the Championship table, separated by just two points, with the Hoops in 13th and the Lions in 14th. Both clubs will be hoping to force their way into the top half over the coming weeks, but club chiefs will also be doing some early planning for next season.

Free transfers are always important for Championship clubs without a huge budget, and with that in mind, we have taken a look at some of the players who are currently on course to be out of contract this summer that Millwall and QPR could consider.

Daniel Iversen (Leicester City)

Iversen is still only 27 years of age, and he is a goalkeeper who has shown plenty of promise despite never being Leicester’s first choice. He has made just 12 league appearances for the Foxes, but he has completed a number of loan spells, playing every game of the 2021/22 season with Preston, while he was Stoke’s first-choice goalkeeper for the second half of last season. Iversen could be a smart signing given his Championship experience and the time he has spent working behind high-level keepers at Leicester over the years.

Massimo Luongo (Ipswich Town)

Could QPR secure an emotional return for Luongo? The midfielder made 145 league appearances for the Hoops but he could be a free agent this summer after making 65 league appearances for Ipswich Town, playing a key role in their promotion to the Premier League. The midfielder is now 32 years of age, but he could clearly still to a job at Championship level.

Freddie Woodman (Preston)

Woodman is another goalkeeper who could be in demand having been a regular at Preston, making 32 league appearances this season. The 27-year-old is said to have held talks over a new contract with North End, but he is still on course to depart on a free transfer.

John Swift (West Brom)

Swift is another experienced player currently set to move on this summer. The creative midfielder is a very good operator at Championship level, and he has made 29 league appearances this season, aiding West Brom’s playoff bid. Swift would be an attractive signing, but his production hasn’t been brilliant this season, with the 29-year-old providing just one assist.

Harry Darling (Swansea City)

Swansea have not tied up a new deal for defender Darling, who is a solid defender at Championship level. Now fired Swansea head coach Luke Williams said before the January window: "Not at the moment. I think we are potentially going to be putting that to bed and letting Harry concentrate on his football." Darling is still only 25 years of age and he is approaching 100 Championship outings. With Swansea struggling this season, Darling could well be available this summer.

Dominic Hyam (Blackburn Rovers)

Hyam is yet to get a new deal despite making 33 league appearances for Rovers this season. The 29-year-old centre-back has played a big part in a promising campaign for the Lancashire side, but he hasn’t agreed a new deal yet, and the club has just lost manager John Eustace, which could complicate things. Hyam is a solid Championship player.

Lewis Baker (Stoke City)

Last but not least, Lewis Baker has been with Stoke since 2021, racking up 91 league appearances, and he is a good technical player, now 29 years of age. He has made 20 league appearances this season, and he could add quality and depth to either Millwall or QPR’s midfield.
