Neil Harris continues to strengthen his Millwall squad ahead of clashes with Watford and Portsmouth to kick start the upcoming campaign.

Millwall have confirmed that club legend Shaun Hutchinson has re-signed with the Championship side just months after being released from The Den.

The 33-year-old becomes Neil Harris' fourth signing of the summer window and joins as a free agent following his recent release. Hutchinson left Millwall at the expiry of his previous deal in May and now returns for another 12 months.

The London outfit had appeared unwilling to extend the defender's stay after eight years following a campaign that had been disrupted by injury - a highlight of the season came as he netted a last minute winner in the 1-0 victory over Bristol City on New Year's Day. Hutchinson made just 14 Championship appearances last term but will now return and take up his role as club captain.

The former Fulham and Motherwell star has made 257 appearances for the club and is set to form 'part of the club's defensive set-up for the 2024/25 season', according to the club website. Hutchinson will now join teammates at Calmont Road this week before a pre-season training camp in Spain.

Millwall kick-off the upcoming Championship season with the visit of Watford to The Den on August 10. The Lions will then travel to Portsmouth in the first round of the Carabao Cup days later before a league visit to Bristol City.

Speaking to the club's social media channels on Thursday, Hutchinson said: "There's a reason why I've spent so long of my career here and every single year when my contract is coming to an end, I'm always keen to stay here. I love being here. I've got so many fond memories of the place.

"It's like coming back as if I've never left, settling in and getting going. It's an opportunity to play another year at the club which I'll never take for granted and will always enjoy."
