The Cottagers are in the hunt for more signings as they prepare for the new Premier League season.

According to a report by the Daily Mail, Marco Silva’s side ‘missed’ out on a deal to land Bernardeschi last week and he opted for Toronto FC instead.

They have now switched their attentions to Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet.

More details

The Daily Mail add that Fulham ‘made an offer’ for the Italy international following his Juventus exit but the deal fell through due to ‘proposed drops in salary’ if the club are relegated back to the Championship.

Bernardeschi, 28, has now made the switch over to Canada and will be linking up with Lorenzo Insigne in Toronto.

The attacking midfielder has played for Juve for the past five years and was a regular for the Serie A giants, making 183 appearances in all competitions and scoring 12 goals.

Prior to his move to Turin, he was a hit at fellow Italian side Fiorentina.

Fulham move on

Fulham have already signed midfielder Joao Palphina from Sporting Lisbon and attacking midfielder Andreas Pereira from Manchester United.

Silva appears to be after more additions and Cornet is next on his radar.

Missing out on Bernardeschi is a blow for the Cottagers as he is a player who would have injected some serious quality into their attacking department.

Nevertheless, it wasn’t to be and the club still has plenty of time to bring in someone else before the new campaign starts.
