Fulham will hope O’Neill can get plenty of game time to boost his development. The new League of Ireland season starts in a couple of weeks and Derry finished 2nd in the last campaign behind Shamrock Rovers.

O’Neill, 20, has been on the books at Craven Cottage for the past few years and is under contract until the summer of 2025, with the club holding an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months on top of that which shows they rate him highly.

He has caught the eye in the Premier League 2 with the U21s this term and has made 12 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and six assists. The Republic of Ireland youth international will now get the chance to show what he can do at senior level.

In other news, Fulham boss Marco Silva has been given a one-game suspension, as per BBC Sport. He will not be in the dugout for tomorrow’s FA Cup clash against Championship side Sunderland.
