He is having the ‘second part’ of his medical in Portugal today and will return to England with his new teammates on Monday, as reported by Sky Sports (live transfer blog, 23.07.22, 13.00).

What will Mbabu bring to Fulham?

Mbabu will provide Fulham with more competition and depth in their defensive department.

There is no doubt that Marco Silva needs a few more signings through the door over the next couple of weeks to ensure his squad can be competitive next term in the top flight.

The Switzerland international has been a key player for Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga since joining them in 2019 from Young Boys, making 82 appearances in all competitions.

Mbabu was on the books at Newcastle from 2013 to 2017 but only played five times for their first-team.

He will compete with Kenny Tete at right-back in the next campaign, assuming the deal gets over the line.

Fulham let Cyrus Christie leave on a free transfer this summer and loaned Steven Sessegnon to League One side Charlton Athletic meaning they have been needing a new player in his position.

Other news

In other news, in an interview with the Daily Mail, former boss Mark Hughes rues leaving Craven Cottage back in 2011 due to a lack of investment and said: “They signed a striker for £10million a week after I left.”

He is now in charge of League Two side Bradford City and is aiming for promotion next season.
