Premier League free agent goalkeepers and defenders Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham can sign right now
The summer transfer window is now over, but Premier League clubs can still wrap up deals with the help of free agents. Clubs realistically have until September 13, which is the Premier League squad submission deadline, to wrap up any free deals.
Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and West Ham could take advantage of that avenue. With that in mind, we have taken a look at the current list of free agents based on players who have played for a Premier League club in the last 12 months. Here we focus on goalkeepers and defenders.

James Tomkins
Last club: Crystal Palace
The 35-year-old defender left Crystal Palace after eight years and 125 league appearances in the summer. He is looking for a new club, telling the South London Press back in May: “I’m going take some time with the family, see some friends and do a bit of golf or something. In the back of my mind I’m not finishing yet. I do feel like there’s a few years left in me, for sure. It’s just whereabouts. We obviously don’t know yet. I’m just going to stay positive, stay fit in the summer and enjoy it as well.”
Dan Potts
Last club: Luton Town
The versatile defender is able to play at centre-back and full-back and is still only 30 years of age. Potts made 195 league appearances for Luton over nine years and could be a solid addition. He came through at West Ham and was an England under-20s international
Paul Dummett
Last club: Newcastle United
The 32-year-old left Newcastle United after 14 years and 196 league appearances this summer, though he served as a squad player for the final years of his stay. Dummett is able to play at centre-back and left-back.

Hide AdKarius made just one league appearance for Newcastle, serving as one of the back-up keepers. The 31-year-old has played at the very top level, and despite memories of that forgettable Champions League final display, he is usually a decent keeper.
Cedric Soares
Last club: Arsenal
The former Arsenal full-back is looking for a new club after making 36 league appearances over four years. He also spent time on loan at Fulham. Soares could be a realistic option for many Premier League clubs.
Serge Aurier
Last club: Galatasaray
Serge Aurier most recently played for Galatasaray but he played for Nottingham Forest before that brief spell. The 31-year-old right-back would be a solid addition on a free transfer.
John Egan
Last club: Sheffield United
Egan made 208 league appearances across six years for Sheffield United, establishing himself as a steady performer at centre-back. He is now 31 years of age and coming off a horrific leg break, but he is still an experienced player who can add plenty on and off the pitch.
Joel Matip
Last club: Liverpool

Hide AdMatip is a pricier option given his likely wage demands. The 33-year-old made 150 league appearances for Liverpool in eight years. He will be a popular option post transfer window.
Brandon Williams
Last club: Manchester United
The 24-year-old full-back is a free agent after leaving Manchester United. He made 15 league appearances during a loan spell for Ipswich Town in their successful season of last. Off the field issues, including a driving ban, won’t help Williams in his bid to find a new club, but he is a capable player who could prove himself if and when someone takes a chance on him.
