Oliver Glasner sends Crystal Palace players 'ready to fight' warning after damaging Everton defeat

The pressure is mounting of Eagles boss as he seeks his first league win of the season.

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner says he and his players are in a real fight to save their season after the defeat to Everton at Goodison Park meant they have gone six league games without a win. This is a sharp contrast to their form at the end of last season, where they won five of their last six league games.

The Eagles were tipped to kick on and at least fight for a spot in the top half of the table after beating the likes of Liverpool and Aston Villa to finish 10th in the league. However, they have since struggled to reach those levels and are now stuck in 18th place, with three defeats and three draws. Speaking after yet another setback, Glasner warned that his players needed to "wake up and smell the coffee."

He told the BBC: “We know it – we look at the table. Maybe it’s welcome back to reality? Maybe we were flying too high after the great finish of [last] season?

“Many forgot that seven games before the end of the season, we were five points away from relegation. The Premier League is a fight. Especially here at Goodison Park, it’s about defending long balls. This is also a part of the game. We have to be ready for this. We have to be ready for second balls and ready for this fight. We were for over 75 minutes, but not for the whole 95 minutes. That’s why we lost.”

Can He Turn Things Around?

Glasner built huge credit with the form that saw the Eagles equal their best-ever Premier League finish, but it remains to be seen if he can find the same level of success that led Eintracht Frankfurt to the Europa League title in his previous job.

There are genuine issues with the loss of Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and Joachim Andersen, but Ismaïla Sarr and Daichi Kamada have arrived to strengthen the squad. Additionally, they managed to keep Marc Guehi despite strong interest from Newcastle, including a £65 million bid.
