Next Crystal Palace manager: Ex-Liverpool, Newcastle and Leeds United men among favourites

Crystal Palace are on the hunt for a new manager after sacking Patrick Vieira on Friday morning.

A number of former Premier League managers have been made the early favourites to take over at Crystal Palace following the sacking of Patrick Vieira.

Palace had not won a game in 2023 but had just three games remaining against teams in the top half, with eight of their other fixtures against sides in the relegation.

As it stands on Friday morning, former Palace manager Roy Hodgson is the favourite to take over. He was in charge at Selhurst Park between 2017 and 2021, with Vieira replaced the ex-England boss in the hotseat.

Announcing the sacking, chairman Steve Parish said: “It is with enormous regret that this difficult decision has been made. Ultimately, results in recent months have placed us in a precarious league position and we felt a change is necessary to give us the best chance of retaining Premier League status.

“That said, Patrick’s impact since joining us in the summer of 2021 has been significant, and he is held in the highest regard by myself, and all of his colleagues. He led the team to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final and respectable 12th placed finish last season playing some exciting football, which was a challenging and crucial campaign for the club given the changes we made to the squad prior to his arrival.”

The club say the search for their next manager is already underway and here are some of the early names linked to the job.
