Crystal Palace are set to make the long trip north as they face Newcastle United in the third round of the Carabao Cup. This will be the second time the teams will face off this season, following on from a drab 0-0 draw at St James’ Park back in September.

This is the penultimate fixture for both sides, who will endure a six week break from domestic duties due to the 2022 Fifa World Cup. Palace head to newly promoted Nottingham Forest, whilst Newcastle host Chelsea.

Both sides came into the game in good form. Palace have won their last two games, beating London neighbours West Ham at the London Stadium with the last kick of the game.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are on a long unbeaten run that has seen them in the Champions League places. They haven’t lost since August, and recently beat Southampton 4-1 in the Premier League.

Neither side has fared well in domestic competitions in recent years. Crystal Palace reached the FA Cup final in 2015/2016 season, losing out to Manchester United. This tournament could provide the platform for a chance of winning a major trophy.
