Marc Cucurella has been clear about how how Chelsea’s board should approach the future.

Chelsea star Marc Cucurella has sent a clear message to the club’s owners as the Blues look to take steps forward this season. Mauricio Pochettino managed significant progress at Stamford Bridge last season, settling things down after a whirlwind couple of years since the arrival of owner Todd Boehly.

Despite Pochettino managing to turn things around, he was not able to reach an agreement to continue at Stamford Bridge, deciding to walk away due to disagreements with the board. One player likely to have been disappointed with the departure of the Argentine boss is Cucurella, who was handed the chance to revive his Chelsea career last season having previously slipped down the pecking order.

The full-back was superb in the second half of the season and he went on to be one of the most eye-catching performers at Euro 2024, winning the competition with Spain. ‘Cucu’, as he is affectionately known, is back with Spain at the moment for the first Nations League fixtures, and he was asked at a press conference about the arrival of Enzo Maresca as Chelsea boss.

Answering the question, Cucurella sent a clear message to the owners that they need to have some patience from here on out. “I think the coach we have is very good, he has very clear ideas,” he said.

"We've had years of coaching changes, let's see if we can achieve stability without many changes and so that the manager can transmit his ideas. We need stability, we have very high-level players and hopefully we can have the patience that is needed, that calm, so that everything goes well. We have the level, we just need stability and for the coaches and players to be allowed to work in order to do something important."

Cucurella has been a key player for Maresca so far this season and will likely to be heavily relied upon given the Italian’s desire to attack through the flanks.
