Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel says he hopes Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can get them the goals after signing on from Barcelona on transfer deadline day.

The 33-year-old scored 13 goals in 24 appearances including two in the El classico after joining the Spanish side as a free agent in February from Arsenal.

Chelsea spent £70 million on Wesley Fofana and also managed to bring Denis Zakaria on loan from Juventus with an option to buy.

But the signing of former Arsenal captain Aubameyang grabbed the headlines as he is expected to lead the line and coordinate with Raheem Sterling while Chelsea go in search of glory in the Champions League and also the Premier League.

The Blues sanctioned the move for the striker even though they knew he was ineligible after he suffered a broken jaw following a robbery attack he suffered in his home.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel admitted they would have to get him a mask to help him begin training next week.

He also admitted the striker was definitely out of the London derby against West Ham on Saturday.

He told reporters ahead of the West Ham game: “Hopefully he can be that good again. You know what you get with Auba and he was very happy to come back to the Premier League. We knew it could happen. He can deliver goals.

“At the moment, he cannot train. We need to get him a mask for his jaw so he can begin training next week.

“There was never a big issue. He has a big problem with his time but he never misses a meeting, sometimes getting him 60 mins before training is an issue.

“It is sometimes 58 mins or 56. I am sure he will fit into our dressing room, he is always positive.”

Chelsea have lost two of their last three games in the Premier League and having spent a record breaking £255.3 on players this summer, they are expected to get back on track against a West Ham side who held Tottenahm to a 1-1 draw in midweek.
