Reece James also lasted the entire duration- while Ben Chilwell was fit enough to start, he was however stretching his right leg by the time he was being replaced by Cucurella in the second half.

Asked if the defender was feeling some pain pain before he he was replaced, manager Graham Potter said it was only a kick and he was yet to speak to him again.

“I haven’t checked it over but I think it’s more of a kick than anything else and probably a little bit of fatigue.

“That was his first start for some time so the idea before the game was to take him off at 60/70 minutes max. So that was the plan.”

Chelsea will now turn their attention to the Premier League game against Southampton who are without a substantive manager following the sacking Nathan Jones earlier this week.

Graham Potter has now won just two games in his last nine games in all competitions, the Southampton game definitely gives the Blues the chance to change that.
