Manchester United have moved one step closer to securing their prime summer target by agreeing personal terms with Chelsea star Mason Mount according to the Telegraph.

The England star still has one year left on his current Chelsea deal but wants a fresh challenge after failing to agree a new deal with the Blues.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, when he took over the club, said he was interested in signing English talents even though he admitted some of the prices were outrageous.

But with Mount showing interest in swapping London for Manchester-the club have met his agent and his father and are willing to accelerate talks next week in view of getting the deal done as soon as possible.

Ten Hag said in July: “I would like to sign English players because I think there is only one criteria and that’s quality in combination with the price.

Mason won the Champions League and UEFA Super Cup at Chelsea, he was a starter for England at the World Cup but a combination of injuries and contractual talks has affected his season.

There had been reports that new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino would try to stop him from leaving but it looks like the player has made up his mind and Chelsea are looking to cash in on the player who came through the academy.

Another player who could leave the club is midfielder Mateo Kovacic, who has been hugely linked to Pep Gaurdiola’s Manchester City. Chelsea wants a clear-out to make room for both new players and the new manager to work with.
