They had tried to agree a deal with Chelsea in January but missed the transfer deadline, however, both clubs have remained in talks with the move now agreed. He has signed a deal until the summer of 2026, with the option of a further year in Hull’s favour.

The 20-year-old joined Chelsea in 2016 from Brentford’s youth set-up after the Bees closed their academy programme. He made over 60 appearances for a number of Chelsea’s youth teams before being handed his senior Blues debut in a 2-0 League Cup victory over Brentford at the end of 2021.

Head coach Liam Rosenior said: “I’m absolutely delighted to tie Xavier down on a long-term deal. We’ve worked really hard to get Xavi to commit his future to the club and he’s a big part of my plans. “He’s got undoubted potential and quality, an outstanding attitude and trains at 100% all the time. He’s got Premier League physicality and athleticism. If we can help him improve his technical aspects and tactical understanding of the game, we’ve got a fantastic asset for the club.”
