Chelsea star to ‘hold talks’ about transfer exit after England vs Senegal

Juventus are believed to be set to make an approach for a Chelsea player after England’s World Cup clash with Senegal.

Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been strongly linked with a summer move to Juventus and their scouts have been watching the former Rennes goalkeeper perform for his country at the World Cup.

Massimiliano Allegri has been looking at the Senegal shot stopper for a while and the fact that Kepa Arrizabalga seems to have overtaken him as the number one for new manager Graham Potter has strengthened their resolve, with the 2021 FIFA best goalkeeper not ruling out the move.

According to reports on Senegalese website wiwsport, Juventus are long-term admirers of Mendy, and see his current situation at Chelsea as the perfect opportunity to tempt him away with a deal that will make him the number one at the Italian giants.

Wojciech Szczęsny replaced the legendary Gianluigi Buffon, but there is feeling within the board that he’s done his best and now there is the need to bring in someone who can help the rebuild that is required to take Juventus back to the very top of Italian and European football.

At Chelsea, Potter is said to not be a keen admirer of the ex-Ligue 1 goalkeeper and will sanction his sale if the right bid is made, as he eyes his former Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez. The new Chelsea boss wants his goalkeeper to be able to start attacks and should be very comfortable with receiving it and making good decisions - even though Mendy is one of the best shot stoppers in the world, he’s just not as brilliant as kicking with his legs as he is with his hands.

The Blues endured a frustrating week before the international break, losing to Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle. They know that they should be ready for the game against Aston Villa as Potter’s honeymoon period will be over, and he must get the team playing in the style he was known for at Brighton.
