Gallagher twist

Chelsea could be set to sell Conor Gallagher after all, but it won’t be to Tottenham. Recent reports have suggested that Gallagher was more likely to pen a new contract, but it looks as though La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are stepping up their efforts to strike a deal.

Transfer ‘insider’ Fabrizio Romano tweeted: “EXCLUSIVE: Atlético Madrid and Chelsea are now in direct talks for Conor Gallagher deal. Negotiations underway for package worth around €35/40m add-ons included, requested by Chelsea. Gallagher, on top of Atlético list as revealed in May — now getting closer.”

Guardiola on Alvarez

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has been speaking about Julian Alvarez’’s future amid talk of the Argentine moving to Chelsea to secure more regular first team future.

Asked in the USA about the possibility of Alvarez moving on, Guardiola said: “I read that he [Alvarez] is going to think about it. OK, think about it. Then he will inform us what he wants to do. Julian played a lot. He wants more? It’s fine. So that’s why [he wants to] think about it. And when he thinks about it, he will inform us.”

Alvarez has said about his current stance: “I haven't stopped to think about what I'm going to do. Last season I was one of the players who played the most minutes in the team. But it's true: in the end, in some important games, it's not pleasant to be left out. I will have time to consider my decision. I haven't stopped to think things through calmly. Once the Olympic Games are over, I will take the time to reflect on what I want for myself."

Alvarez was signed for just £14million by City, but if they were the sell, the Citizens would likely demand a huge fee of at least £60million.

Tottenham’s hopes

Romano has also been speaking about Tottenham’s hopes and what kind of business they would like to do over the coming weeks. He told The Boot Room: “I think up front is where they are focused. Pedro Neto at Wolves is a player they really like and that is an expensive deal.

“Neto and Eze at Crystal Palace, these are the two players they like the most, but it’s not easy to negotiate with these two clubs. Two complicated deals, but Tottenham will do something, they are exploring options and will be active in the next weeks.”
