Chelsea travel to Manchester United with their tails up while the Red Devils are in search of a manager.

Manchester United have not been able to finalise the Ruben Amorim deal in time for the Chelsea game, meaning Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the game in a development that could favour Chelsea. United initially attempted to bring in Amorim ahead of the game, but negotiations hit a snag when the Portuguese manager requested that several of his trusted assistants join him immediately.

This unexpected demand extended discussions, with both parties needing more time to draft contracts and discuss the best way forward before reaching an agreement.

Sources at LondonWorld also report that Amorim's contract includes a 30-day notice period, meaning he can’t simply leave and will need to continue managing Sporting at least until the next international break.

Chelsea had been concerned about facing a Manchester United side buoyed by a new-manager bounce, a phenomenon often seen when a new manager takes charge for the first time. However, they will now face a team playing under an interim manager, which could play to Chelsea's advantage.

The Blues go into the game looking to respond after a disappointing League Cup exit to Newcastle midweek, which has put pressure on manager Enzo Maresca regarding his team selection. The Chelsea manager made 11 changes at St. James' Park and left Cole Palmer on the bench even when his team needed a goal, which surprised many. However, all will be forgiven if Chelsea can secure three points at Old Trafford, keeping them within reach of the top four in the league table.

Chelsea boss Maresca is also set to make a big decision on midfielder Enzo Fernandez who started this season as the number-one central midfielder but seems to have lost that spot to Romeo Lavia lately.
