Chelsea are looking to re-enter negotiations for Argentine and Benfica star Enzo Fernandez, despite seeing their previous attempts for him falling apart badly.

The 21-year-old was sensational at the World Cup for his country and has been excelling in Portugal. A host of clubs in Europe have been looking at him, including Real Madrid and Liverpool, but it is Chelsea who have been consistently linked all winter.

Enzo has been likened to N’Golo Kante with an engine that was pivotal as Argentina won the World Cup, he’s been consistently marked out to be the next big thing in European football.

He was Chelsea’s main target at the beginning of the transfer window even though they had to walk away from the deal due to the staggering figure Benfica were asking for.

Chelsea have already spent £420 million on players, including a loan deal for Joao Felix and permanents transfer of Mykhailo Mudryk.

They still have N’Golo Kante, who is battling injuries, while Jorginho still can dictate games from the heart of midfield on his day.

But there is the need to move to the next level and that is where the likes of Wesley Fofana, Reece James and Enzo Fernandez , if he signs, will be crucial for the Blues.

Benfica had ruled out any deal happening early in January but with the transfer window still open and the player seemingly interested in moving to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea owners are reported to be exploring the best possible way to get the deal across the line.
