Chelsea's summer transfer business could be set for yet another interesting twist in the coming days.

Newcastle United, owned by Saudi Arabia's PIF, are reportedly one of the clubs monitoring Conor Gallagher's situation after he returned from Spain on Tuesday, where he was supposed to sign a long-term deal.

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Eddie Howe’s side is closely watching the midfielder’s situation as they look to steal a march on Atletico Madrid, who agreed to a £33 million deal for Gallagher last week. Gallagher flew to Spain, where he completed his medical and was even spotted touring the stadium before the deal broke down.

The BBC reported that Conor Gallagher's £33 million move to Atlético Madrid was halted because Chelsea's £34.5 million deal to sign striker Samu Omorodion collapsed over personal terms on Sunday.

The English midfielder has the security of having just a year left on his current deal, but Chelsea have set a £33million price tag on him as they look to cash in on one of their homegrown players.

Newcastle are also in discussions with Crystal Palace for defender Marc Guéhi. The former Chelsea defender joined the Eagles three seasons ago in a deal worth around £18million, but Chelsea cleverly inserted a 10% sell-on clause.

According to The Times, Crystal Palace is holding out for a fee of £70 million for their English defender. That would be a very nice £52 million profit, with 10% of that going to Chelsea—so £10.4 million for the two-time Champions League winners. Adding that to the Conor Gallagher fee, if the deal were to happen, would mean a staggering £43.4 million for Todd Boehly and Co.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is set to speak for the first time in London as Chelsea manager tomorrow afternoon ahead of their Premier League opening game against Manchester City on Sunday.

The Blues are hoping they can now turn all their star power into a working system that brings out the best in them after finishing sixth in the league last season.
