Chelsea beat the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United for the signing of one of Brazil’s big talents.

Chelsea are hoping the latest injury to Estevao Willian is nothing serious after the young forward left the pitch in tears during a league game for Palmeiras. Earlier this summer, Chelsea reached an agreement to sign the 17-year-old from the Brazilian side, paying £28.7million upfront plus a further £19.4m in add-ons.

The forward is not expected to arrive at Stamford Bridge until next summer when he turns 18, but there is much excitement around him, especially after he chose to join the Blues despite interest from teams like Real Madrid and Barcelona.

However, everyone associated with the club will be hoping that the latest injury, which saw him being forced off, is nothing serious and doesn't keep him out for a long period.

The 17-year-old was in tears after he spoke to the medical team as he left the pitch, and manager Abel Ferreira admitted the situation was worrying. He told Brazilian outlet Globo after the game: “It’s worrying. Above all, we had losses in the defensive sector; we have fewer options without Murilo and Piquerez.

“It’s a shame that this happened. Football is like that. He had already been out, and we forced him in the last game with the intention of him getting into a rhythm for the next game. I don’t know how serious it is, but it’s sad. Losing another option—we’ve already lost a few, and this one could mean another one because of today’s injury.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to add to their squad with Danish goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen flying into America, where he will complete his medical before signing for the Blues. He is expected to compete with Robert Sanchez for the number one spot at the club, with manager Enzo Maresca keen on a ball-playing goalkeeper.
