Charlton are set to host Premier League opposition as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Valley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup. It will be the first meeting between the two sides since 2016.

Their last game was at the home of Charlton, with Brighton winning 3-1. Goals from Sam Baldock, Jiri Skalak and Tomor Hemed were enough for Brighton that day, with fans hoping for a similar scoreline on Wednesday (December 21) night.

Since then, Brighton have gone from strength to strength and are now an established Premier League outfit. The Seagulls have had a great season so far and sit in seventh ahead of the Premier League restarting.

Meanwhile, Charlton’s recent history has made for poor viewing. The Addicks find themselves 18th in League One and are currently without a manager after the sacking of Ben Garner earlier in December.

Charlton were recently dumped out of the FA Cup by lower league opposition in Stockport County. This prompted some fans to say that Charlton was at its "lowest ebb in living memory".
