Northampton Town have strengthened their squad by poaching a midfielder from League One rivals Charlton Athletic.

Charlton Athletic left it late to pick up a tenth League One win of the season against Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.

Lloyd Jones and Karoy Anderson bagged second-half goals to complete a 2-1 comeback, which ultimately saw Ian Evatt sacked from his role at the Toughsheet Community Stadium. Nathan Jones' men have lost just one of their last eight league outings as they look up at the play-off zone.

Charlton Athletic allow midfielder to join League One rivals

Charlton Athletic midfielder Terry Taylor has joined League One rivals Northampton Town on loan for the remainder of the 2024/25 season in search of more playing time.

The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to Bolton Wanderers and Dundee this month but it is the Cobblers who have won the transfer race, as confirmed by Charlton Athletic on Wednesday. Taylor signed for the Addicks in 2023 and has made 14 appearances this term.

Technical Director Andy Scott said: "We wish Terry well during his loan. He’s an excellent professional who has been extremely diligent in everything he has done this season and this move gives him the opportunity to go and play regularly."

Taylor had been subject to praise from the Welshman for his performance against Stockport County in October, when filling in for Conor Coventry. Jones said: “He was excellent. I left him on when I was taking others off. He was really fluent. He got on the ball, he dictated play against two good midfield players. He was excellent.

“He just ran out of legs at the end. He probably made one bad decision at the end where he played it short and could have put it in but apart from that he was impeccable.

“James Brayne [set piece and first-team coach] has stepped up and we have a set-play coach now. We’ve been excellent. Set-plays today, Terry Taylor was wonderful in terms of his delivery.

“We looked a threat. We created plenty from set-plays and from open play. We looked a much more fluent, dangerous team today and that’s credit to the players.”

Wycombe Wanderers eye Premier League coup

Wycombe Wanderers are believed to have offered Crystal Palace a hefty £750,000 for defender Danny Imray as the League One outfit looks to cement promotion to the Championship.

The Chairboys sit second in the League One table and have already splurged on Anders Hagelskjaer, Magnus Westergaard and Alex Lowry this month. Crystal Palace 21-year-old Imray has been on loan at Bromley this season, turning heads with his FA Cup performance against Newcastle United recently.

Transfer specialist Alan Nixon claims that Wycombe have sent Palace a £750,000 bid for the full-back, who is a priority target before the end of the window - Chairboys defenders Jack Grimmer and Jasper Pattenden have suffered with injuries this term. It is added that the League One outfit could increase their bid if necessary to secure the deal.
