Brentord face nightmare injury pile-up as Man Utd sweat over key duo

Brentford are awaiting news on the fitness of several key players as they prepare to host Manchester United.

One player definitely missing is midfielder Frank Onyeka, who is currently representing Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Bees manager Thomas Frank will assess the fitness of Rico Henry after he made his long-awaited comeback from injury in the 3-0 defeat at Liverpool on Sunday.

Sergi Canos is likely to come into the starting line-up if the Dane decides Henry is not fit enough to play the entire 90 minutes.

However, Frank will definitely be without goalkeeper David Raya, defenders Charlie Goode and Julian Jeanvier and midfielder Josh Dasilva.

Speaking after the defeat at Anfield, Frank said: “We have two full days between Liverpool and Manchester United, but it is what it is.

"We will regroup, spend the maximum 24 hours in terms of disappointment or recovery and then be ready to fight again against United.

"It’s a game we are looking forward to and I’m sure our fans who were magnificent at Anfield are too.”

Their visitors are boosted by the return of Luke Shaw and Scott McTominay after they each completed a one-match suspension by sitting out Saturday’s draw at Aston Villa.

Marcus Rashford and Cristiano Ronaldo are both expected to return and could be handed starts as their side look for a first win in three Premier League fixtures.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick said: "Cristiano and Marcus were training yesterday, so we will train today.

“But in the press conference before the Villa game, I was also convinced Cristiano would be available and he wasn’t.

“So we have to wait for the training session today in an hour's time. I think they both could be available.”

Paul Pogba remains unavailable although he is ready to step up his comeback and could make his comeback in early February.

Anthony Martial has trained away from the main group with the Red Devils and Rangnick is unsure whether the Frenchman will be involved as doubts over his future with the club remain.

“He didn't train yesterday and the day before yesterday,” said Rangnick.

“He will probably train today.

“After, I will take the decision if he is nominated or not. We'll see what happens.”

Aaron Wan-Bissaka is also set to return after an illness.
