Brentford are reportedly interested in Sunderland star Ross Stewart as they weigh up potential striking options. The Bees are after some competition and cover for top scorer Ivan Toney and have until the transfer deadline next week to bring someone in.

According to the Daily Record, the Scottish forward in on their ‘radar’ following his impressive run of form in the Championship. Fellow Premier League side Bournemouth have also been credited with an interest.

Sunderland will be desperate to keep hold of Stewart, who has scored 40 goals in 80 games in all competitions since his switch from Ross County. However, he only has 18 months left on his contract at the Stadium of Light and is yet to sign a new deal which means his long-term future continues to be up in the air amid links to the top flight.

Brentford have received interest from Hull City in winger Keane Lewis-Potter. The 21-year-old made the move to the Gtech Community Stadium last summer from the Tigers but hasn’t managed to nail down a regular spot in Thomas Frank’s side. However, Hull Live claim he will not be heading back to the MKM Stadium.

The England youth international provides the Bees with a useful alternative option in attacking areas but there is no doubt they could do with another striker. Stewart fits the bill and is on a roll at the moment, but it remains to be seen whether the Black Cats will cash in.

In other news, Max Haygarth, who left Brentford at the end of the last campaign, is now playing for Linfield. He has told their website: “I just want to be back on the pitch and enjoy playing football again, and I’m really excited at the thought of it, after getting off the mark last week. I’ve moved into accommodation with one of my teammates and that’s been great in helping me get settled.”
