It was a day for centre-backs with Gabriel Magalhaes heading home the winner after a Rob Holding opener had been cancelled out by Jarrod Bowen’s effort.

Ahead of the game the pressure valves had been turned on by Tottenham’s 3-1 win at home to Leicester but Mikel Arteta’s side showed they were battle ready and came out with all three points to reclaim top four.

The Gunners impressive run has been orchestrated despite currently having two of their key players, Thomas Partey and Kieran Tierney all injured and might possibly not play this season.

Bukayo Saka looked to be in some discomfort late on while utility defender Takehiro Tomiyasu had to be replaced after excessive pain meant he could not carry on.

But manager Mikel Arteta said his change was precautionary and the defender should be fine for the next game.

The Arsenal boss said: “Tomi has been out for so long and he could not continue but I’m not concerned as he should be fine.

The Arsenal boss confirmed that summer signing Ben White who missed the trip to West Ham would have been assessed ahead of the game to Leeds. Ben got injured vs Manchester United we have to wait and assess him in the next few days.”
