Arsenal star Bukayo Saka has already issued his verdict on a new contract.

The Gunners are still working on striking a new deal with the youngster, who has become irreplaceable over the last 18 months or so. Saka has scored five and assisted six so far this term, playing a central role in Arsenal’s fine start to the campaign, and it’s clear he is one of the brightest talents English football has to offer.

The problem for Arsenal is that Saka is out of contract in 2024, and while the club are still holding the cards, they will be in a vulnerable position if nothing is agreed by the end of the season. In the meantime, there are reports Manchester City could attempt to temp Saka away from the Emirates Stadium with juicy contract terms.

Arsenal will be desperate to wrap things up to put Saka out of the reach of rivals, but the process is taking some time, and fans can be forgiven for feeling a little nervous about the situation as time progresses.

Thankfully, there is something for Gunners fans to cling on to, and that is comments from Saka about a new contract back in August.

“I share his confidence,” the Gunners star said. “I really feel at home at Arsenal. I feel the love from my team-mates, from the coaches and from the fans. The manager is always there for me and the different bits of advice he gives me are special.

“The atmosphere at the Emirates is getting better and better and I can feel the energy boost from the crowd every time I play. We’re loving every minute of it and we feel a stronger team as a result of that support.”

Those comments should make Arsenal fans feel a lot more confident about the situation, and with the Gunners top of the Premier League, there’s no real reason to think Saka will opt to leave the club, even if City are interested. Though, at some point, Arsenal may well have to pay up if they want to keep one of their most important stars.
