Arsenal predicted starting XI to face Newcastle United as change made from Liverpool

A look at Arsenal’s likely starting XI to face Newcastle United on Saturday.

Arsenal are back in action today when they face Newcastle United in a tricky-looking clash at St James’ Park in the Premier League’s lunchtime kick-off. The Gunners need three points having fallen five points behind leaders Manchester City, but they are not alone.

The Magpies have fallen into the bottom half and find themselves in desperate need of a win, with pressure building on the back of their sloppy start. Here we round up the likely Arsenal starting XI for today’s game.

GK - David Raya

There is little doubt over whether Raya will start, with the Spaniard the clear number one.

RB - Thomas Partey

Arsenal remain short-handed on the right side of defence, but Partey has stepped in to do well in that position many times this season, and he will likely remain there.

CB - William Saliba

One of Arsenal’s standout performers this season, Saliba will have the centre-back spot nailed down.

CB - Gabriel Magalhaes

There are question marks over Gabriel’s fitness here, with Arteta saying his inclusions depended on whether he came through training on Friday. If he does miss out, Jurrien Timber could come inside and Jukub Kiwior could play on the left.

LB - Jurrien Timber

While there is a possibility of the above playing out, Timber is likely to start on the left if Gabriel is fit.

CDM - Declan Rice

Rice will be one of the players holding down the fort in the middle here barring any major surprises.

CDM - Mikel Merino

Merino has slotted in nicely in the middle, and with Partey at right-back, he should get the start here with Jorginho his only real competition.

CAM - Leandro Trossard

Trossard will provide the creative spark in front of the midfield with Martin Odegaard still sidelined. Ethan Nwaneri is another strong option.

LW - Gabriel Martinelli

Martinelli has had a mixed season so far, but he remains the principle option out wide, with Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus the only main competition out wide.

RW - Bukayo Saka

An undisputed starter. Saka remains Arsenal’s biggest threat.

Arteta will have been pleased to see Gabriel Jesus score during the week, but Havertz will remain the starter having been heavily relied upon so far this season.
