Arsenal player ratings gallery: outstanding late spell earns one player 9/10 in Reading win
Arsenal ought to have been home and dry long before Reading’s late pressure made Gunners fans nervous.
With Leah Williamson and Rafaelle both out injured, it was a night when Jonas Eidevall’s revised back line was set to come under close scrutiny.
Instead, though, it was his attacking players who looked unsettled - with many great chances passed up en route to an unconvincing win over a Reading side who are yet to put any points on the board.
On paper, the Royals had no right to trouble the North London team but, at the final whistle, it was only Stina Blackstenius’ eye-catching first-half strike which separated the two sides after the Gunners survived several waves of attack in the closing stages of the game.
It’s three wins from three for Arsenal, but they passed up the chance to go top of the Women’s Super League on goal difference with their narrow victory at the Madejski stadium.
Find out how we rated the players’ performances below...
1. Manuela Zinsberger
9 - Little to do for the first 70 minutes but stayed alert to win all three points for Arsenal with impressive stops to deny Dowie and Harries
2. Laura Wienroither
7 - Put herself about the pitch well but missed an early sitter to deny Arsenal full charge of the game.
3. Lotte Wubben-Moy
6 - Eager to make her mark. Generally solid but failed to deal with the ball to hand Davies a big chance.
4. Steph Catley
7 - Calm and communicative, Catley even managed to get forward in new centre-half role. Finding feet with Wubben-Moy pairing but promising first effort.
