Arsenal player ratings as summer signing endures a nightmare in disappointing defeat to Brighton

Arsenal suffer shock 2-1 defeat to Brighton Hove and Albion in the Premier League.

Leandro Trossard silenced the home crowd in the first half with a brilliant finish before Enock Mwepu powerfully struck home the second for Graham Potter’s side.

With just two minutes of the 90 remaining, Martin Ødegaard struck home a beautiful curler to reduced the deficit and give the Gunners a late fighting chance, but Brighton just about held on for all three points, their first win since February.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta made some changes to the team with both powerful midfielder Thomas Partey and reliable left-back Kieran Tierney ruled out of the game through injury.

Gabriel Martinelli thought he had scored a leveller for the Gunners in the first half after he out jumped the Brighton defence but VAR intervened and called an offside against pacy forward.

Captain Alexandre Lacazette is a man desperately out of form having failed to score from open play in his last 16 games in all competition and looks like a man short on confidence.

The defeat is disappointing in many ways-as it’s their third loss in their last four games and, it’s opened the door for Tottenham who play later on today to take control of the chase for Champions League football next season.

So with the Gunners losing three of their last four games, here is how we rated every Arsenal player at the Emirates this afternoon.
