The Gunners could also face a battle to keep hold of full-back Kieran Tierney amid fresh transfer links.

Tierney has grown into his role as the Gunners’ starting left-back since arriving from Celtic under Unai Emery in 2019.

The Scotland international has made 16 Premier League appearances so far this season, and he remains Mikel Arteta’s go-to option at left-back, but ahead of this summer, La Liga giants Real Madrid have been linked with a surprise move for Tierney.

Los Blancos will be on the lookout for left-back cover this summer, with long-serving Brazilian Marcelo set to leave at the end of his contract.

Ferland Mendy is likely to remain the starter, but according to Calciomercato, Carlo Ancelotti is a big admirer of Tierney, and having tried to sign him at Napoli, he now wants to bring him to Real Madrid.

That would cause an issue for Arsenal on the left, but another report, this time from Fichajes, claims the Gunners could sign another player able to play full-back, albeit on the other side.

Barcelona’s Sergi Roberto is being linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium ,with Manchester City also credited with an interest.

Roberto is said to have seen talks over a new contract at Barcelona break down in the last week, and he could now become available for nothing.

The Spain international is a midfielder by trade, but he has regularly played at right-back over the years for Barca, where he has been since his youth days.

Roberto is an experienced player at the top level of European football, winning Champions League, La Liga and many other titles.

He is also an experienced Spain international, with 26 caps, and he will be an attractive option if he does become available for nothing this summer.

Roberto only just turned 30 and he recently underwent surgery to repair an ongoing thigh issue, something Andres Iniesta had to do during his Barcelona days due to the exact same issue.

Arsenal could complete a wise signing in Roberto, and they are already able to agree a pre-contract agreement with him due to his expiring Camp Nou deal.
