Arsenal proved that the World Cup break did little to slow them down with an impressive 3-1 win over West Ham on Boxing Day, Manchester City must now respond.

Mikel Arteta watched on with pride as the Gunners delighted fans at the Emirates stadium with a commanding second half display to beat the Hammers and open up a seven point gap at the top of the Premier League table. This was the first time former Gunners manager Arsène Wenger was returning to the Emirates since leaving the club in 2018.

Said Benrahma got the goal for the Hammers to set up an exciting encounter, but Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah got the goals to ensure what looked like a slippery banana peel turned out to be a comfortable win.

Theirry Henry who was working on the game for Amazon Prime says Arsenal have sent out a strong message to Manchester City and the ball is now in their court to respond.

The Arsenal legend said: “Yes, we are here to stay. It is important to say we have a team. Arsenal fans have been waiting for this team to compete, not just one or two players but the whole team.

“You win a title with a squad. That is very important and what Eddie Nketiah showed tonight, he showed that he can be the answer for the time being. We don’t know how long exactly the time being is. However long they want him to be the answer.”

Manchester City will get a chance to close the gap to five points, the same point difference before the break- but there is no hiding that Arsenal are here to the stay and Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United will have to be at their best to stop them.
