EasyJet is looking to the over 45’s in their latest cabin crew recruitment drive. Hit by staff shortages, the airline has devised a campaign to attract ‘empty nesters’ to join the team.
According to research conducted by the airline, more than 78% of UK adults over 45 say they are open to a new challenge when their children fly the coop. The British company has also seen a 27% increase in crew aged 45 and over in the past four years, including a 30% rise in over-60s joining the team in the past 12 months.

The aviation sector has recently been swamped by issues related to staff-shortages, flight delays and cancellations, and handling of lengthy queues and luggage. Airlines have struggled to maintain high standards post-pandemic and Brexit.
In August, CEO of Ryainair Michael O’Leary, said Brexit has had a huge impact on staff-recruitment, he said: “[Brexit has] been a disaster for the free movement of labour and one of the real challenges being faced by the UK economy”.
Being a cabin crew member means being the first port of call on a flight; showing passengers to their seats, serving meals and refreshments, ensuring the quality of emergency equipment on board, and tending to all customers’ needs.
