Billie Joe Armstrong left Londoners at a pub in Islington in shock over the weekend after he hopped on stage to perform one of his band's iconic hits. After hearing Borderline Toxic launch into a cover of the 1994 track Basket Case, the rock and roll star joined them on stage.

On Saturday evening (May 13), punters at Islington pub Slim Jim’s were left stunned by the impromptu performance by the  Green Day frontman.

Green Day have shared a video of the moment in a post on Instagram as Armstrong was seen surprising the band's singer, Kerry Glass, by taking over the mic. He performed alongside the flabbergasted singer as they belted out the tune from the same microphone.

Captioning the clip, the band wrote: "When you walk into a pub, and the cover band starts playing your song." Slim Jim’s Liquor Store has since shared its amazement over Armstrong's visit as it gushed "We are still in shock" on its Instagram account.

Kelsey, who works at Slim Jim’s, in Upper Street, shared her disbelief on TikTok. In the caption of her post, she wrote: "So Billy Joe Armstrong from @Green Day just hopped on stage randomly to sing Basket Case at the bar I work in London."
