Aaron Ramsdale sends Patrick Bamford clear message after Leeds victory

Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale says his antics paid off as Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford missed his kick - even though it could easily have gone the other way.

The Gunners came away with all three points at Elland Road to keep their strong form going and open a four point gap between themselves and second-placed Manchester City, who lost to Liverpool at Anfield.

Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford missed a penalty kick and saw another one overturned by VAR after a scuffle between himself defender Gabriel Magalhaes late on in the match.

On the striker’s missed penalty, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale’s antics played a part in putting off the English striker, and the Arsenal number one says getting into the head of strikers feels good when you come away with three points.

He told reporters after the game: “Firstly, it’s great to see Pat back out there after a long time.

“You play against these people, and you have competition and what not, but after the game, you have the mutual respect to say ‘hello’ and all those things.

“It’s good that you have that feeling that you’re getting one up on him at the time. He could quite easily have scored that penalty, and it turns in his favour.

“So, it’s a great little battle we’ve got, but at the end of the day, it wasn’t just me. We had some big blocks and moments from our defenders, midfielders and attackers. It’s a great day all-round, really.”

Arsenal will not turn their attention to the Europa League game against PSV at the Emirates where they can seal qualification to the knockout stage with a win.
