Crystal Palace suffered a second home defeat this season after a brilliant Conor Gallagher strike settled the London derby against Chelsea at Selhurst.

Palace had battled well before that and were heading towards a draw before Gallagher, who was impressive for the Eagles last season that he earned a spot in the England squad, scored to give Graham Potter his first win as Chelsea manager.

The goal broke the hearts of Palace fans but their anger was directed towards referee Chris Kavanagh who only punished Thiago Silva with a yellow card after he fell and handled the ball in the first half.

Replays showed that the Brazilian defender deliberately handled the ball, denying Jordan Ayew a chance at running through on goal.

Manager Patrick Vieira was visibly upset and was shown a yellow card for his trouble during the game.

Asked about the incident during the post match press conference, the Crystal Palace manager said he’d preferred to keep his silence.

He told reporters after the 2-1 defeat to Chelsea: “That incident is difficult for me to speak about and understand. I don’t want to speak about it because I will get into trouble if I speak about what I think.”

End of tough run in the Premier League for the Eagles

After a difficult start to the season that has seen the Eagles play Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City, games against Leeds, Leicester and Wolves will provide a perfect opportunity to get points on board.

There are physical concerns though with Joachim Andersen and Nathaniel Clyne both picking up injuries. Andersen suffered a calf injury while Clyne looked to have rolled his ankle just before Aubameyang scored for Chelsea.
