Luckily for Londoners, the yellow weather warnings that have been issued by the Met Office do not impact London.

Areas such as Manchester, Blackpool and the Merseyside region are currently covered by a yellow warning for strong winds - as is a section of Northern Ireland.

However, there are a number of flood alerts across most of the country, and some fall within and near the London area.

To check if you fall into an affected area, view the Met Office website.

According to official government guidance, if you find that you are in an affected area where a flood alert has been issued, make sure of the following:

  • Sign up for flood warnings
  • Keep up to date with the latest flood risk situation
  • Have a bag ready with vital items like insurance documents and medications just in case you need to leave your home
  • Make sure you know how to turn off your gas, electricity and water mains supplies
  • Effectively plan how to move yourself, your family and pets to safety
