London weather: Met Office issues yellow weather warning as thunderstorms and rain forecast

The Met office said that thunderstorms and heavy rain will cause some disruptions, including delays to train services and damage to buildings.

London is braced for thunderstorms, flooding and disruption today as heavy rain batters the capital.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning which will remain in place till 3pm today. (Wednesday August 25)

The thunderstorms and heavy rain are predicted to cause disruptions, including delays to train services and damage to buildings.

The Met Office added that some homes and businesses are likely to be flooded, as well as some short term loss of power.

Forecast in full

Thursday:

Outbreaks of heavy rain for many areas will clear slowly east through the morning and early afternoon, tending to ease. Sunny spells developing across western parts and feeling warmer here with light winds. Maximum temperature 23 °C.

Thursday night:

Any remaining rain in the far east clearing into the evening to become dry and largely clear overnight. Mist and fog patches possible into the early hours in rural spots. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Friday:

Any early morning mist patches clearing to leave good sunny spells on Friday. Generally dry but an isolated shower possible later in the day as cloud tends to thicken. Maximum temperature 25 °C.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:

Saturday will be bright with a small chance of afternoon showers in places. Sunday and Monday will become predominantly dry with sunny spells. Temperatures near normal.
