Last week TfL said the station will remain closed for the rest of the year.
“While making the planned improvements, we found that we needed to do more complex and time-consuming repairs. We now expect to be able to reopen the station at the end of 2024,” a TfL spokesperson said.

The existing escalators were installed in 1997 and bespoke to the station, making it difficult to source parts for maintenance and repairs.
The replacements will be the model used on the Elizabeth line and throughout the London Underground network, making sourcing parts easier. TfL says they are expected to last for around 40 years.
