A single-storey vehicle workshop was destroyed by fire and part of a second workshop was damaged.

One man left the building before crews arrived and was treated on scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews.

A gas cylinder was removed by firefighters and cooled as a precaution, as some cylinders can explode when exposed to heat.

The brigade was called about the fire at 5.40pm and was under control by 8.15pm.

Fire crews from Romford, Harold Hill, Hainault, Dagenham and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.

The fire is believed to have been accidental.
