Park Royal bakery fire: how bad is the damage, what was the cause of the blaze and is Minerva Road closed?

Residents in the area of Park Royal were told by the LondonFire Brigade to keep their doors and windows shut as a fire ripped through a nearby bakery.

Smoke was seen billowing from the bakery, and the flames lit up the night sky in London.

Around 20 fire engines and 125 firefighters were called upon to tackle the blaze.

As well as doing their primary job of stopping the fire, the firefighters also removed 11 gas cylinders as a precaution, as there is a possibility they can explode when exposed to heat.

The blaze was under control shortly after 6am and there are currently no reports of any injuries.

The London Fire Brigade twitter account tweeted “Firefighters are currently tackling a fire in #ParkRoyal where most of an industrial bakery is alight. Please avoid the area.”

The fire occurred at an industrial bakery on Minerva road in Park Royal, Ealing at around 3am.

It took fire crews from Park Royal, Willesden, Wembley, North Kensington, Ealing, Chiswick and surrounding fire stations to battle and eventually get the fire under control, highlighting the severity of the blaze.

Is Minerva road closed?

At 4:44am, London Fire Brigade twitter account tweeted again saying “Firefighters are continuing to tackle the fire at a bakery in #ParkRoyal & are working to contain the blaze to a single storey building.

“Minerva Road is closed and there could be some disruption to traffic in the area during the morning rush hour.”

As of mid-day on Wednesday 4 May 2022 LondonWorld can confirm the road is now open, as confirmed by a shop on Minerva Road.

How bad is the damage?

The building was just a single story, and the blaze roared for around three hours. The London Fire Brigade confirmed that most of the ground floor and half of the roof was damaged by the fire.

Paul Morgan, the station commander on scene said “Firefighters were faced with a fully-developed fire on arrival”.

He also added that the crew on scene worked “incredibly hard” to contain the fire, ensuring it didn’t spread to nearby residences and remained at the source only.

What was the cause of the blaze?

A cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation has been launched..

Where is Park Royal?

Park Royal is located in West London, and is split between two boroughs in the capital, those being Ealing and Brent.

It was the site of two of the early homes of English football side, Queens Park Rangers before their relocation.

It is also the site of the largest business park in London, and has great potential as it has strong transport links. The scale and redevelopment in the area has it being described as having the potential of being the Canary Wharf of West London.

It’s viewed as a nice place to live in, and houses in the area can go for over £1 million.

It is also described as a quiet and nice place to live too.
