The Met Office has issued a new rain warning for Greater London starting Sunday morning (January 26).

The yellow weather warning will be in force throughout Sunday and the early hours of Monday. The forecaster is advising Londoners to be aware of potential flooding, following heavy downpours.

It has also said there is a chance of delays and cancellations to bus and train services due to the weather. Londoners should be careful when travelling on the Underground because the surfaces can get very slippery in the rain.

According to the weather forecast, rain is expected to begin to fall in London at around midday on Sunday. Rain will continue throughout Sunday and Monday and end on Tuesday morning.

Weather in London today

This weather warning is separate to the wind warning that has been issued for Storm Éowyn today.

The Met Office says: “Today will be windy with Storm Éowyn expected to bring a spell of strong winds. Early rain will clear through the morning to leave a dry, bright day. Maximum temperature 8 °C.”

According to reports the capital could see wind speeds of up to 50mph today.

A rare ‘tornado’ warning has also been issued for London by European meteorologists. They have said people living between Bristol and London (the UK’s ‘tornado alley’) may experience tornado-style winds.
