HSBC to close 114 bank branches including six in London - here’s the full list and date of closure

HSBC is to close 114 branches across the UK, including six in London, as customers using banks in person has significantly fallen since the Covid-19 pandemic. The bank will try and redeploy staff impacted by the closures but around 100 staff members will lose their jobs.

Multiple banks have  seen a decrease in footfall, with more and more users opting to bank online. After the closures, which begin in April 2023 HSBC will be left with 327 branches.

Jackie Uhi, its managing director of UK distribution, said: "People are changing the way they bank and footfall in many branches is at an all-time low, with no signs of it returning. Banking remotely is becoming the norm for the vast majority of us."

She also mentioned that the decision to close a branch was "never easy or taken lightly, even more so if it was the last branch in the area”. According to finder.com, “In 2022, an estimated 93% of the UK adult population will be using some form of online banking”.
