Four bridges and major rail station evacuated by police over harmless bomb scare

Four central London bridges, a major train station and the surrounding areas were evacuated due to a suspected bomb scare - which later proved harmless.
The Met Police closed Waterloo station and shut Westminster Bridge, Waterloo Bridge and the Hungerford and Golden Jubilee footbridges “as a precaution”.
This was while they assessed “an unattended item”.
The item is located in the “vicinity of South Bank”.

Hide AdAnyone travelling in the area has been asked to “please use alternative routes”.
The London Eye was also reported to have been closed and evacuated.
The Met initially tweeted out the news at 11.08am on Tuesday, February 15.
The force has now updated that the item was “found to be not suspicious” following assesssment.
Road closures will be lifted “imminently”.
The force thanked the public for their cooperation.

Hide AdA Met spokesperson said: “At 10.16am on Tuesday, February 15, police were alerted to an unattended item in the vicinity of South Bank.
“Road closures, including Westminster Bridge and Waterloo Bridge, were put in place while an assessment of the item was carried out.
“It was found not to be suspicious and all roads were reopened at around 11.30am.”
