Newham adult care death: Man, 21, charged with murder

This was the second care home killing in London to take place in the space of a night.

A 21-year-old man is due to appear in court charged with the murder of a fellow resident at an adult care facility in east London.

Officers were called at around 3.45am on Tuesday January 2 to Newham Centre for Mental Health in Plaistow to reports of a man injured.

Police and London Ambulance Service attended to discover a 34-year-old man with head injuries. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

A post-mortem examination held at East Ham Mortuary on Wednesday gave cause of death of compression of the neck.

Rolando Torres-Pena, previously of Carson Road, Canning Town is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court today (January 5).

This was the second killing of its kind to take place in the space of a night.

Just hours before the tragedy in Plaistow, at around 11.50pm on Monday, Met Police officers were called to an adult residential facility, in Lansbury Drive, Hayes, Hillingdon to reports a man had been assaulted.

Paramedics also attended and a man, named as John Hallissey, died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination confirmed he died from compression to the neck, police said.

Rajinder Pall, 44, of Hayes was charged with murder on Wednesday and will appear in custody at Uxbridge Magistrates’ court today (January 5).
