A senior officer said no injuries were reported. Several police vehicles were at the scene shortly afterwards, outside Islington Assembly Hall and Islington Town Hall.

The incident is being reviewed by officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command.

Asked whether the police vehicle had its blue lights on at the time of the collision, a Met Police spokesperson said: “Whether the lights were used will form part of the investigation, therefore not something we can give a definitive response to at the moment.”

Following the collision, the street was blocked northbound but traffic was still passing.
