The 61-year-old had been found guilty of four counts of sexual activity with a child following the conclusion of a trial at the same court on December 6.

The offences were reported in 2019 by a therapist.

Met Police officers spoke to the victim, who agreed to support the investigation. Further evidence was gathered from those who knew Bremakumar at the time of the offending.

Bremakumar was arrested on April 30, 2021, and he denied the allegations but was charged on December 16, 2021.

Detective Constable Alastair Maitland, who led the investigation, said: “This young woman has shown immense courage in speaking to the police and supporting this investigation. I hope the fact that Bremakumar has been found guilty gives her a sense that justice has been done.”

He added: “I also hope it will give others who have been the victim of sexual abuse to have the confidence to come forward and speak to police, no matter how much time has passed since the incident occurred.

“The Met has specially trained officers who will listen and support you through the investigative process, and skilled detectives who will work tirelessly to see that those responsible are placed before the courts.”
