A former City of London police officer is charged with grievous bodily harm after a man suffered a broken jaw and teeth during an incident.

Former PC Kevin Coady, 47, of Minehead, Somerset will attend Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday, December 2), charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm (GBH).

It follows an investigation by watchdog the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

At the time of the incident Coady was based at Bishopsgate police station.

He allegedly used excessive force when he deployed his Taser after a man had run off from police in Broadgate Circle in August 2020.

An IOPC spokesperson said: “Our investigation began following a mandatory referral from the force, in August 2020, and a complaint about the officer’s use of force.

“In October 2021 we concluded our investigation and sent our final report and a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which authorised the charge.”
